2018 Readers’ Favorite Contest Winner
Last spring I entered the Readers’ Favorite 2018 International Book Awards contest along with two-to-three thousand other authors. Much to my pleasant surprise, Busted received the Bronze award (third place) in the Fiction – Suspense genre.
I discovered the first-and-second place winners in the fiction – suspense genre are international best selling authors, then me. Yay!
There’s a formal-attired award’s ceremony, where the gold, silver or bronze medallion hanging from a ribbon is draped around the author’s neck.
This approach reminds me of the televised Olympics and watching the reactions of the winners on the podium. The person that wins the gold medal is beaming: “I won!” The silver medalist looks a little bummed and might be thinking: “Darn. I just missed first place by a (fraction of a) second.” The third place winner is ecstatic; they’re delighted they made it onto the stage. That’s me. I’m thrilled my work is acknowledged.
The award has benefits. The author has earned the right to have the medallion printed on their book cover, (which helps sales). I’ve submitted the cover change to the publisher, but enhancements/edits take up to six weeks. I don’t know if the new cover will be available in time for my October 11th guest author event at the Newport Beach Public Library. (If it’s not, for those that want to purchase a book, I’ll paste the bronze stickers–available from Reader’s Favorite–onto Busted’s covers.)
The Readers’ Favorite award ceremony takes place in Miami, in November, the same week and location as the International Book Fair, the largest book event in the U.S.
I probably won’t attend; receiving the recognition is enough.
Thanks for reading.
P.S. If you like suspense novels, please consider reading my debut novel, Busted, which shows both sides of the drug debate. To buy, click on Amazon. If you’ve already read it and liked it, please recommend–don’t loan it — to a friend. (Smile.)
